That being said, I have a 372, 461, and a 660 to work on today. Definitely looking forward to working on some OEM saws today

That’s a great idea!!
Let’s do it.
Home Depot rental saws look out!!!

Lol. Return rental saw 2 weeks later completely hot rodded. Best idea ever. Back in the 70s I think Hertz used to rent Pintos. Guys would fly to a specific location, rent and modify them, and run them on road courses

Back in the 60s they rented GT-350 Mustangs, lots of weekend rentals, and returns with different engines. (Folks would put the Shelby engine in their own Mustang and their Mustang engine in the Shelby and return it).

Thanks for the info (Dr Al + Dan). If that is the problem, a simple spacer between the impulse line and the case should cure it. Like I stated previously, the carb issue on these saws was driving me crazy, and I was very hopeful someone would discover the problem.

The AM kits take about 3X longer to assemble than OEM due to poor fit + finish. However, OEM 044/440s have all but vanished from around here, and being semi retired I view these as a "puzzle challenge". As such, I really appreciate that these low cost kits are out there, and I have acquired 3 more to turn into Hybrids (I will use OEM 460 pistons and the HS Supply Door Buster jugs). The one I did that way seems to run pretty well, noticeably better than the BB ones I did, and the HLS jugs seem to only need mild mods.

If I were trying to make a living based on my time, I would not touch an AM saw. Fortunately, this is just a hobby for me.

IMG_2583.JPG IMG_2584.JPG Uh ohhhhhh. Hung a ring. Didn't check the ring gap. It looked a little tighter than usual. Used cabers. What say you. This happened out of the cut returning to an idle. I sent the video to crackerbuilt. I'll get him to upload it. I haven't set up a YouTube acct yet

Yikes. On video you say? What P&C was it?

Edit: once I saw the ring gaps I remembered you fingering a farmertec jug.

What say you? First time I've ever hung a ring in hundreds of builds. Ports were chamfered then hand sanded with 400 grit

I’ve hung 1, @Iggy hung one, both aftermarket.
On Jake's saw, we believe the ring cracked before it hung. Port bevels were good, ports were not excessively wide.

It may not have been the ring gap, I believe sometimes the AM pistons use different thickness rings, and this stuff results.
