So, if you hose a saw down good with non-chlorinated brake cleaner and then pull the plug to check for spark, you can tell if you have spark if the chainsaw bursts into a ball of flames.

Anyone else tried this? Asking for a friend...

Did this with a Honda Civic once…I thought it was funny, but the owner wasn’t too impressed.

Had a similar outcome with saw that turned out to be severely flooded I figured out the problem when the fuel came gushing out of the plug hole and yes indeed there was plenty of spark to set it ablaze. Ended up snuffing it out with a shirt right quick like.

Electro-sausage therapy. Lol

Oh my!

I once thought it would be a good idea to clear out a braided oil pressure line by starting the car with one end of the line unhooked. My friend was holding the other end with it stuck down into a plastic water bottle…….you ever seen a fire hose get away from someone?

Back when I was a real man at 10 or 12 years old I’d check for spark by hanging onto the end of a bare plug wire. I’m less of a man now
I did that a couple times. :p
Fun times.

I don't even remember when I last tinkered with an internal combustion engine.

Had the same experience Steve. One of those “WTF was I thinking” times.

When I was cleaning a flood saw and attached the plug hanging near the plug hole cranking for spark, ignited what's remain inside.

I did one even worse, set my brand new jac shirt on fire checking spark on a saw. Found out these shirts came new with some sort of waterproofing sprayed on them from the factory, that stuff burned very much like napth gas or pure alcohol,. Was a fairly fast flash up and burn, couldn`t put it out as it took merely seconds to burn completely over the whole shirt, didn`t do much damage to the shirt but left it smelling like singed hair.

Reminds me...
I was a young commercial refrigeration mechanic called out for a freezer down on a Friday night, Independence Day weekend.
Motor overload was tripped for compressor, contactor was dirty.
I hosed it down with aerosol electrical contact cleaner and threw the disconnect.
There was fireworks.
Put the fire out then spent the next two hours re-wiring the damn thing.
