How about torque Ryan. 661 usually has higher RPMs, and 660s usually have more low end grunt. 2 ports vs. 4 ports.

A 661 out snorts a 660 by a mile.

I'm gonna try a 661 with just a muffler mod/timing bump and a tightened squish and I'll bet there isn't a ported 660 out there that would smash it in big wood.

Wow. The 4 ports must just be way more efficient. Both low end and high end.

The only two things I can honestly complain about on the 661 is the oil tank is on the small side/oiler could be a tad better and it needs a air filter setup like a 261. I think the old 660 screw on style filter seal is actually better at keeping fines from getting past filter.

The only way to go with these bigger saws is the foam filters.
Sad that the actual company didn't come up with a better, more viable alternative.

If I were to buy a 661 personally...the first thing it would be getting is a max flo setup.

Ran one tank through my 661 when I got it. The hd2 was completely plugged up and it was never put back on the saw again. Maxflo is the only way to go on a 661 imo.

I agree. I noticed most of the buildup after a tank was on top of the filter. I think if they experimented with where to put the holes on inside of filter cover...as to more evenly distribute the buildup it would be better. Going back to the screw on filter cover would be good too.

I offered to sell a 660, PHO, to a tree remover for $600 and the 661 to the same guy for $800. Both are used, in mint condition, but the 660 has a brand new crankcase assembly that includes cylinder, piston, rings, bearings, seals, etc.. He intends to mount a 36" bar on whatever he buys. As soon as he scrapes up the cash, which one did he ask me to reserve? The 661 of course. Here it is, in all its glory and splendor:
