An ounce or two you will never notice. I don't reinstall the heat shields because they are a PITA, and with a modded muffler you don't need them.

044s never came with them.

If you are limbing with a saw, most of us will notice a difference of 3/4 lb or more. The longer the day, and the older you get, the more you will notice it.

I find it ironic that I got ridiculed like crazy for purchasing a 362 "because is was way too heavy for a 60 cc saw" (which turned out to be complete BS), and now I get ridiculed for liking saws that are light for their power … very interesting!!! More BS!!!

Actually 044's after serial number X38472631, did come with a heat shield.

And they made changes to the crankcase to accommodate the heat shield.

They must have went through the trouble of redesigning the case for no good reason. Those heat shields just aren’t needed.

When all is said and done on this saw a new thread with a tm-461, a tm-462, some nice 18"ish wood & a stop watch would be kinda kool. I like the simplicity of the 462, no unnecessary overly complexed components. I wonder now if the clever cookies who bought up stashes of 461's feel so wise.

I would ......... I want to see how good a 462 is after 2000 hours of proper work holds up
because I know how a 460 - 461 looks .

I believe the heat shield corresponded with choking up the muffler. Early 044/440s did not have any muffler baffle, and had a large exit hole. The exit hole was subsequently reduced in size substantially.
