Now I have a place to connect the Mityvac.


I started with pressure. I couldnt get it to build for nothing.
So, holding the thing to the sidevof my head like a conch shell in a redneck Disney movie spoof, I could hear it coming from the exhaust.



Note to self,
Snug=ok.
Gorilla tight=not ok.

So good news.
It holds under pressure like a CEO in a board meeting with his secretary hidden under the table.


And not so good news?


After maybe 2 minutes tops


And within another 2, it's down to 5"hg.

Looks like It will need the crank seals after all.

...and do yourself a favor and buy a set of hole punches, a cheap set can be had from Harbor Freight and they will cut a lot of gaskets.

I have hole punches.
The regular punch was within reach.
I was being lazy!

Lacking any factory Mac training or tools, I winged it by making a gasket for the exhaust with a piece of tire tube to vac/pressure test.

Thats how i do all my pressure/vacuum testing. Old inner tube rubber is so useful.

And used some super cool patented spacers.

I have to say I was expecting this thing to be more of a pain in the azz to work on.
It really hasnt been bad.

But then again, I just finished this project.

In tonights episode of miniature boat anchors, I removed the cover off the points box. It simply pops off.



And removed the 2 screws retaining it to the case.


And theres the seal.


As was suggested, I put some oil on both seals and spun it over a few times.
I let it sit briefly, then tried pulling a vacuum again.



More than before.

But, within 2 minutes.


It did pull better vac and hold it slightly better than before.

Should I try again tomorrow, or simply just call the seals trash and replace?
I'm leaning towards replace.
I'm this far into it.
