I follow you on Instagram. [emoji106]

Both the 421 and 6100 are brilliant easy starters. Like both the saws. The builds on these are very good. In and around the clutch area on these are very heavy duty IMO. How does a 15” balance? I was going to order a 15” x-force bar and x-cut chain for some woodland thinning.

The 15 inch sugihara narrow kerf is my daily driver, usually run oregon 95 vpx chains, or the husqy equivalent. I like it because its nibleness when limbing, and nice cutting power.

After your 15” recommendation I think I’ll just go ahead and get one [emoji106]

They both use the same clutch if you didn't know along with the 5105.

I did not know. I like the clutch inner cover, the nice pressed steel part. It really tidies that area up and leaves little if no room for chip build up compared to a 560 or the likes.

The stupid easy start system makes the PS-5105/EA5000, PS-550/EA5600, PS-6100/EA6100 look like fatties.

To me the easy start is not worth having.
If I wanted things easy I'd let someone else dismantle my firewood logs.

My MMWS6100 is freaking fast.

The NK bar and chain is what interested me when I saw it had the small mount. I like a lightweight, tail heavy, saw - and a lightweight NK bar changes the handling of a saw considerably. The extra cutting speed is a bonus (providing you increase the cutting angle of the chain).

Can you get Carlton chain in your area? I used to use 'old reliable' VP95 chain and then there was a change to VPX. I got some VPX loops that the chrome was weak, so I tried some of the new Carlton NK chain. It is as tough as Stihl chain (rough on files) and has a tighter corner so you can make it faster than VP/VPX95. It is surprising how long it holds up in Ozzie hardwood. - Caveat, I have no idea where the next lot of chain will come from, the country, the factory, the metallurgy, the tempering, etc. - You mileage may vary....

They have their uses. But they do look badly proportioned. My uncle at 66 likes using this 6100 cos of the easy start. Up a tree is a good place for an easy start.

As I recall, it has a Zama EL-42 carb on it. I also recall some guys modding the 'limiter' jet on the low speed circuit to get some more torque out of it.
Terry. If your talking about the ps 6100 then it has this C3.....DM 27a now used.

The "Easy Start" on the Dolmar/Makita saws is not just about the spring assist starter , its more of a package.
MPI coil storing electricity ,the coil advance and retard settings, the very low speed needed to fire the coil plus the purge bulb on many of the saws with easy start.
I see all this as a advantage and not a disadvantage.
