It’s coming up on replacement time for my main saw. I’ve been using a ported 365 special. It wears a full wrap handlebar and a 24” bar with a full chisel setup. I’m looking to replace it with a new saw. Whatever it is will wear a 20 or 24” bar 98% of the time. I’m looking for the same weight as the 365 or lighter. For reference my 365 weighs 19.5 lbs full of fuel and oil with a 24” Husky bar and chain. Easy starting and reliability are my main priorities. So for those of you who own one, is it worth the entry price? Any quirks or issues that I should know before I run out and spend $1200 on one?
Main uses will be felling and limbing doing residential tree work part time. It will also see use as a firewood saw for 6-8 cords a year.

Are you set on the 462? If you were to get a 572xp then all your bars and chains from your 365 will fit it. I understand the 462 is a little lighter. There are some videos reviews of both on YouTube.

I’m not 100% set on anything yet. I just got the money together today. I have traditionally been a Husqvarna fan, with almost all of my saws up to this point being Husky. I’ve just been thinking about a change of pace, and when I saw the weight of the 462 it really caught my attention. A 572 would definitely be useful in that my existing bars and chains would fit, but it’s also heavier. I just don’t know enough about Stihl to make an informed decision

I know what you mean. The weight of the 462 is impressive. It's also more expensive. I am a Husqvarna guy too. I do have a ms660 clone that I built and from that experience I found that stihls are more complicated than they need to be. Husqvarna is a simpler design and easier to work on, for me anyway. There is a good video comparing those two saws. It unbiased and just shows the features and differences of both and shows them in action. I can't remember who posted it. It may have been on the other forum but it should be on YouTube as well if you do a search.

I have had both. Ran a bunch of them also...if I had to choose a stock one I would choose the 572. I found its power and to have more usable torque which for a felling saw and bucking I think fits the bill.

Just my 2 cents since your asking. I have been running my stock 462 for a year with no problems. Running a 20" bar all of the time for firewood cutting. I'd say to look at where you can get the best deal/service if you need it. I probably have 40-50 tanks thru mine so far. Stihl on the original air filter and it looks good. I got a good deal on mine so I know the stihl MRSP price sucks. Shop around for a good deal.Like others have said you can swap chains if you decide on another Hooskie. Good luck.

The 462 runs/handles a lot like a 440 in stock form. Fast throttle response, light construction and sorta high strung powerband. It is more complex/complicated in construction than the 440 obviously. The 572 runs a lot like a ms460 or 576xp in stock form with that smooth sorta torquey feel to it. But a touch lighter and better handling than the 460/576. The construction of the 572 is more heavy duty than the 462 and that’s where the added weight comes from. It’s a tradeoff to get more durability. I guess it comes down to personal preference and what your using it for.

I cut alittle more than 200,000 feet this winter with a 462 24 inch bar 8 pin sprocket. All it needed was air filter clean out and usual cleaning, ran it about 40 to 1, felt to me just like my 372 OE but it cut just as fast as the 461

I wouldn't let a few hundred dollars stop me from buying a new pro saw, that is if you will use it daily or weekly you soon forget what they cost after a few hundred hours of use. Both good saws in their own right. Hard to say which one is 'better' as they both have advantages when compared and very few disadvantages. If you like and are used to husky with a few good bars & chains ready to go that's a decent plus in itself.

You did keep the Husky for a backup ? Good choice . I owned Husky's first but have been buying Stihl lately and have been happy with the ones I have bought . Thinking about an 066 or ms660 but it's gonna have to wait till my corona vacation is over and normal funds are restored .

Good luck with the new saw!
I've been considering the 572 vs 462 lately too! Most of my other saws, chains, and bars are Husqvarna or compatible. Also the Stihl is a couple hundred more. I'm still on the fence, but for the most part I think both are great saws.

Nice! Now, when you get another 300-400 you can justify, send it to randy at mastermind work saws, for porting timing ect.... I ran my 462 stock for a couple days then had randy port it.....

Runs a 36” bar with authority! Or show off with anything less. It’s amazing!

I’ve had the saw for a little while now. I’ve ran approximately 6 gallons through it and just love it more every time I start it. I did add a larger set of SPI spikes with a roller chain catch and a 28” ES light bar. The light bar gave me 3 inches of reach and shaved 1.2 lbs of the total package. I also added a bark box muffler cover and I could ask for a better do it all saw for tree work.
