I am noticing slight difference in chain performance. 100 ft roll 36rs vs already packaged loops. I had some already made loops so I had been using them. After using them up and switching to off the roll, I see an improvement

Every roll I've ever got was different by a little from the others. Just the quality of the steel and the chrome on the chain.

I worked at a Stihl dealer 15 years ago, that was also a hardware store. The owner had about a dozen stores at one time,
and he had closed them all, and had a lot of old inventory, including a lot of reels of old chain. So I tried to make loops
off of them as much as possible.

I noticed that cutting loops off of them was pretty damn difficult, that is where I got the habit of grinding off the rivet heads first. Then eventually, I didn't even bother with the punch/anvil.

The new rolls were much easier to punch/cut a loop off.

I imagine there's slight differences from lot to lot, but it's not like they use a cheaper grade of a chisel tooth for loops. They all come out of the same bin filled with 100000 teeth.
