Never worked on one before. Got one with a bad chain drive sprocket and cant get the "collar screw" loose to change it out. Any ideas if its maybe left hand threads for some reason and is there a trick to removal as the sprocket turns with the screw as you loosen ect.
thanks.

a Service Manual might be of help but I can't dig one up.

Attempted to change the sprocket on my HT75 myself.

Discretion being the better part of valor, I paid the Stihl dealer $15 to do it. John reported it took two guys, the big bench vise and a cheater pipe to do the job.

I could have turned the head into a POS working by myself. [emoji6]

They can a real *b-word to get off. I just lock it in a vice with some wood added for jaws. If the sprocket is junk lock it down. That screw takes a bit of heat and cooling sometimes to get it free. Last sprocket screw I removed, was sure it would snap but did not.

So it's definitely "right hand" threads. And i should use "stage 2" screw removal techniques. ..steve (lone wolf) suggested an impact driver with a "bit of effort" as stage 1.... I don't see anything in the IPL that would be damaged by "stage 3" heat that mutha up real good attempts .
Dying to see what the service manual suggests.

IIRC the IPL lists a tube of red Locktite for the cutting head. [emoji848]

Kinda odd as how Stihl uses mostly T27 in high pressure fastener areas...this is a flat head screw ? In an area that should be fairly easy to access in the field. Changing a drive sprocket shouldn't require an oxy acetylene torch set-up in the woods.
