Does the file need to be held straighter up more angle? I'm still learning the square filling so I'm wondering. Hit the tiestrap type of angle
Likely shallow. I need to move my vice lower to help with that. I'll find out when I run it, if the edge didn't last then likely shallow.

Try to get the side plate straight up or very slightly leaning forword, that one leans back.

That's why I was thinking of trying a single bit file. The edge is so short of the double bit it's hard to tell if the side plate is angled correctly or not in the stroke, I haven't developed a feel for it yet.

Looks better than my first attempt ,try tilting the file so the part not touching the chain is a little higher than you were ,and go closer to the tie strap like was said with the bottom of the file ,it takes some practice and trial and error to get used to it.
