Hi all,

I've been running my 462 for a few days now. I knew the tiny little dog it comes with would be insufficient and now I'm trying to upgrade to felling dogs but could use some input.

My dealer isn't really familiar with them, so I'm hoping someone here can help fill me in on the details. We were able to find the replacement part number for the existing spike, but do I really need to buy a whole larger clutch cover to get the larger outer spike? We couldn't find a part number for just the larger outer spike.

Is there other added benefit to the larger clutch cover?

Any insight and/or part numbers I can give to my dealer would be wicked helpful.

Thanks!
B.

Had my question answered very well in another thread.

The big clutch cover of the rescue saw (1142 640 1702) has captive bar nuts. It comes with the large outer spike 1122 664 0509 (which was superseded to 1122 664 0501). Mounting material, a cover and bumber strips are also included. The large inner spike would be 1122 664 0506.

If you don't want to get the bigger cover, 1142 664 0501 is the outer spike that matches the stock inner spike.

Additionally, there are two different large cover part numbers that I found through my dealer: 1142 640 1701 and 1142 640 1702. It looks like 1142 640 1701 is what comes on the C-M R while 1142 640 1702 comes with the Rescue and costs more.

Looks like you have it sorted out.
You need a wrap to go with the new spikes? I know a guy that has one for sale.

That is incredibly helpful! So 1701 is just the standard. Thanks, really appreciate it.

If you order that part number in the pics, you will get the full assembly for the R - Rescue saw.

It's got some extra tidbits and a large 1122 spike that come with it that you may not need.

Does it come with the roller chain catch? It looked like 1701 did but maybe 1702 does not.

My dealer could only find the outer spike by ordering a whole 1701 cover, so I'll see if he can switch the order to 1702 for the rescue cover.

There is no roller chain catcher for the MS 462. Maybe a other one from a different model fits this saw too.

Edit: Found it, I was wrong sorry: 1122 650 7702

This IPL is not in English, but the part numbers have been good so far. Just find the corresponding numbers to the model of saw.

The small outer spike is 1142-664-0501.

Thanks I'll keep you in mind next time. Do you know happen to know the difference between the 1701 and 1702 clutch covers?

If you wanna spend your money on a nicer looking clutch cover, that's your call, but just so you know, the point of the taller cover is to keep you fingers and gloves out of the chain while using a wrap handlebar. There is no benefit with a regular handlebar.

Understood, that's what I was hoping was the case as I have a wrap sitting here waiting to be installed :)

I was a bit confused as it seemed like the regular wrap model comes with the smaller cover, and the larger is only on the rescue saw.

It's very confusing when both covers show up as "No description" in the parts site for my dealer o_O

I've helped folks get a hold of a lot of stuff for these since they released here last summer. I can order the small outer spike/cover/wrap or whatever you need and ship it to you.

Thanks for the offer. I've got a few things ordered through the dealer for now, but I'll certainly keep you in mind in the future.
