Hi guys,

I've got a brand new Purdy 36" 3/8 0.63 Tsumura Light and Tough bar sitting on my kitchen table and I'm pretty sure I'm burnt! :( My problem is that it's a Stihl mount and the saw I wanted to put it on is a 390xp.

Now some of you may be wondering..."Hey dummy, why did you buy a Stihl mount for your Husky?" Well there are Zero...36"....Husky mount Light and Toughs anywhere on planet earth that I'm aware of. Matter of fact, I had to buy this one from Canada. (Another galaxy far, far, away)

I was under the impression that I only needed a adapter and I would be good to go....I was wrong! :bash: The adapter fits fine filling out the wider slot of the Stihl mount but the damn slot on the bar isn't long enough to get the chain on!

Now I have a 36" bar, 3 adapters, and 1 spare tip and I'm not sure what I should do...???

Sell? Trade? Or, consider having it machined? What do you guys think?

Thanks,

Pat

make yer chain longerer

I thought about that but it doesn't seem like I would have much adjustment??? I could be way wrong about that though. I'm not really sure how much a 36" will stretch over it's lifetime?

IIRC Stihl and Husqvarna use different drive link counts, whichever one you have try the other one.

Joe

I'll take a look, thanks!

Stihl 114dl/Husky 115dl its gonna be tight, but it may work?

I've not seen a problem. I've ground a dozen or more bars. You shouldn't grind hard enough to blue them anyway.

Thanks mdavlee! That may be way too go. I may try to sell first...just not sure yet.

Thanks

I'd grind the slot and use it. You're not going to get one in husky mount for now at that length unless you buy in .058"

I tried that on a 395 and still had to get longer chain. I think the chain adjuster kept it from working after I ground the slot.

I never had that problem. I don't own a husky mount past 24". I've used them all on the 385 and 395 with the normal dl count chains. I think my 36" loops were 115dl. The others were 105 or 110 and 156 for the 50". They fit the 660, 390, and 394 no problem.

Do what Mike Lee said, I modified my 36" LW Stihl bar for my 2186 and works fine. Wish I would of bought a Total or Sugi, that Stihl bar just don't look right on it.... lol

Lengthen the slot and then you may need to drill an additional adjuster hole. Drilling the extra hole allows the bar further back and no extra DL is needed. Have done a few and no worries.

Mike had the correct dl count for Husqvarna too.

Utah, unfortunately.....
Just as @mdavlee said, I too have lengthened the slot on a 3003/D025 bar to use with an adapter, correct drive link count per the powerhead manufacturer, without any problems.

@009L in this case, I believe just going to 115dl will take care of your fitment issues.
