what I have found to work well is heat. I torch off some gunk with just a soap and water. Im not talking about enough heat to melt things but some stubborn stuff will come loose with a torch and toothbrush.

Always seem to go back to the dish washer machine. Not the home unit the shop portable one. No coils, carbs or recoils. Sealed powerheads come out sweet! It's the heat that does the work everytime. Tide laundry detergent or Oxiclean straight up was tops so far.

The gallons of purple power degreasers are around 8 dollars a gallon here. You can buy the 5 gallon bucket of same cleaner at the local parts store for 26 dollars.
I buy the one gallon garden sprayers and mix the cleaner in it. Works good for cleaning up saws, vehicle cleaning(tires, fenderwells, frame), mowers, tractors. Just replaced the garden sprayer this year. Got over 10 years on the original and can't tell you how many gallons meet thru it. I've always diluted with water depending on what is being decreased. The cleaner and sprayer have been a good investment.
