I picked up a good deal 550xp never fuel with the box and paperwork etc. So I’m on holiday and have not opened the box yet. My question is when I have an 066 and a 365xt and I’m not a pro, just the occasional miller of planks and firewood cutter do I really even need the 550 or do I sell it on? Or do I sell the 365 and have something lighter. I’ve never ventured down the 372 covers route on the 365 as the 066 will tackle all the big stuff. So do I take the weight Advantage and keep this 550 or are they less reliable than this 365 that I use as my go to saw?

Cheers for the help with this conundrum!

I've never liked the 365,imo it's a cinder block with a bar and chain attached. What size do you cut most with the 365

I agree which is why I bought this 550. I don’t care what specs say, the 365xt weighs more than the old 365 and balances like a brick. Anything between 2” - 24” but I am starting to think a 550 would do anything that I cut and just get a 25” bar for the 066 to cut anything the 550 won’t? I’m just dubious about the reliability against the 365xt, but I am not adverse to a 550 if people say yes!!

550’s have their problems but love mine. Newer years seem to be better, mine is a 2015. I’ve had the hot start issues but learned how to start it, not a problem anymore.

This one is a June 2018 nib. I understand the hot start of these, I think. Haha. I’m just leaning towards a lighter saw than the 365 seeing as I have an 066 for the big stuff. I just dunno.

If yours is a 2018 it should have every update knowen to man. Myself id sell it if and run the 340/346 you have as that would do everything the 550 can. Also a bit plus for the 346 is that you can tune it yourself.

Yep it’s a 2018. I haven’t updated the sig of mine. I don’t even know what saws it says I have but I had a large cull. I have now just this 550, 365xt and 066. Haha. But if the 2018 are solid with these 550’s I may just keeep it!

I love my 550xp. It's a 2016 model and I have had zero problems with it. I have a 372xp for my large saw.

If you want to upgrade that 365 to a 372xt I got the whole bits to do it.

I think I will love the 550 too. What’s this quirky break in that everyone chats about with the auto tune?

I think if I keep this 550 the 365xt will need to go. It’s a 2018 model 365 and should fetch good money.

They take some time to break-in mechanically to achieve their full awesomeness of power. If you have never had an auto tune saw before you will notice on each cold start the saw is quirky for the first few seconds, yes, just seconds, till it figures out the environment it is operating and then it's a bad momma!

I did think about grinding the restrictors out but it’s not really the power, it’s the nimbleness for coppicing that gets me. The 365 is just not a nimble saw haha

If I where to be honest there's a lot better saws on the market that are better balanced for there size, the 365 ain't 1 of them and I'm not trying to run down anyone's saw either. Just my opinion after months of using a 365 special, that 550 should be a light saver compared to it

I think I bought it to turn it into a 372 xt but then I acquired this 066 and plans changed

I see in your Sig that you have a Makita 9000 how do you like it on the mill, I previously purchased a 880 for the intention of milling
