That there is an ‘87 model. Cool, never seen an 87 black tag. Now we know! Thanks Dan!

Wow, the only big Electrolux saw I knew of was the 181. I learned something new today. As far as I know the silver tag is early/mid 80's, 61, 266, 181 and others, Jonsered too. I've had several 181's, 1984's and 85's. The 281 came out in the states in '88 with a black tag. I'm probably wrong and someone here will correct me.

This is a French/European market 281XP. I dunno if that made it any different. According to the serial it's an 86 is it?

No serial tag on the crank case???? I don’t see where one could derive it being an 86 from that tag.

In the name of interesting facts thought I'd share a couple pics of a ported 281 I rebuilt and sold recently...1986 model

Serial number tag. I don't think I've seen a 281 with the "SE" designation....

Had a factory extra spot machined by the ignition switch for a grounding tab...Another thing I've never seen...

I noticed while cleaning off the 288 to return to the owner... was that looking at the air box I was trying to figure out where this thing got it’s air from. It appears closed off. Hmm... until I finally saw that on the cylinder cover there is a cutout on the flywheel side of the cover. Almost like a early injection system without the jet tube modern saws have. Very interesting. It seems to work good, the low top 288 does a better job than my 064 does with the HD filter.

Yea.. Just near the idle screw. I'm surprised its not turboing dust into the carb box.

Many folks pop out the squares on the upper right of the top cover. Mine was done. Seems to get plenty of air...

I know the high top is that way. Is the low top that way too? I'm not familiar with the low tops.
