the shipping on a saw from minnesota to tennessee is way cheaper than buying a new saw unless you just want a good excuse to buy another saw.. lol
i just shipped a saw from oregon to tree monkey in wisconsin it was 65 with 500 worth of insurance which made the cost 12 dollars more otherwise it would have shipped all the way across the country for 53 smackeroos

I'm going to be the outlier here. I have plenty of saws, but for ease of storage and use get the Makita. I have one that uses two of their 18v batteries and it is very handy. You don't deal with fuel and only have to keep a small amount of bar oil. Charging the batteries shouldn't tax your generator enough to worry about. If you have more than two batteries it'll be fine. A sharp chain will allow it to be as efficient as it can be.

I’m 20 mins north of you in Millington. If you need something big cut let me know, I’ll bring the ported 661 or 044 over and lend a hand - no charge. I do a good bit of climbing and cutting in my job, and as you can imagine we’re QUITE busy after that last storm.

If you want an old saw for a quick easy project, I have an 026 that needs a top end we can discuss. Or an 084. Or an 066. Or a 201T. Or…

I’m in the middle of figuring out the timing changes I want to make on the climbing saw I’m porting now (an Echo 355T) so I clearly understand your passion for saws. Lol

If you buy new, I’d suggest a 261 if you have the scratch…. or an Echo 490 or 590 if you don’t.

Then bring that saw over sometime so we can port it.

Thanks, I’ll let you know what I end up doing. Dealer in MN has plenty of echo 4910 for $360 and also a used Husqvarna 550xp and a used 545 (both original generation, not sure year) for 350. Decisions.

I was pretty impressed with the CS-4910 for the price. Had nice balance with the 18” bar. Thanks for the input everyone.

Been eyeball'n that one myself
Was told the 4310 was coming here for March, I would presume the 4910 will too, they are listed on the Echo Ireland site but not here yet. the 3510 is here though.
Trouble is the 4310 is so expensive, way too close in price to the 501sx / 500P.
The 4310 has no competition since Makita threw in the towel, the Husqvarna 543XP maybe, but they do not stock it in Ireland, and parts will be an issue, mainly because its a Japanese made saw they use to fill a gap in their line up.

Take the Echo and save yourself any potential issues with the other two.
If I was working in the wood, I would buy a version 2 MS261, or V2 550XP,
but for simplicity and dependability its hard to beet Echo.

Husqvarna 543xp from Bruce. Slightly more than the Echo. Handles very well and is as simple as it gets. One of the best hot weather starting saws that I have seen. Take the limiters off and adjust yourself.

543 is reliable but completely gutless for anything other than limbing in my experience with them. I liked the way both my ported 550’s ran but the first one had bearing issues, mk2 was always good to me but the weight of the echo is great! Stupid power too. Buying a new one you get a 5 year warranty, can’t beat that.

So I was in the same boat about a year ago in needing a smaller saw. Largely based on the recommendations of people on here and other sites I picked up a used Makita 4300. It's the blue "smurf" saw made in Germany. I have been beyond impressed with it - It's stupid easy to start every time and cuts thru anything. I've got other saws but this thing just amazes me how it runs and cuts.
