So kind of a question, kind of a WTS/WTB/WTT. My 395 came with a 32". Canon Super Bar. ***EDIT: 30”!*** I got a 24" or so on my 266xp project. Balances a lot better than the 30" on the 395, and the 30" still comes up short sometimes when I need long. I'm thinking about ditching the 30" for 36". Oooh, maybe a LW bar...?

Thoughts? Thanks!

Course I forgot to mention this saw will probably end up ported.

Also I have about 4 chains for the 32”. 2 skip and 2 full. It doesn’t like to pull the full 32” in pine that dried up in the desert full of hard pitch. It will do it but it feels and sounds terrible.

Something is wrong with that 395 if it struggles with a 32”. I just ran a brand new one recently not broken in that ran a 32” full comp like a raped ape. Maybe yours is tired and needs a rebuild?

I second this.

I haven’t run a stock one in a long time but I know my ported ones run 36”, 3/8 bars with 8 pins fine!

Send that bad boy to @Stump Shot for some help.

If you're running in to big old nasties maybe give .404 a look.

Thanks for all the input gents! @Redbull661 I’m set on 42” if I jump up. I went through the saw last year, thread here somewhere. Decent compression but maybe carb or something isn’t right. She’s old for sure. I don’t have anything to compare it too. Well, except for running some ported saws at the NY GTG last year...I remember being impressed but memory for feel ain’t that good.

I could tear into the 395 again and check some stuff and port it. I was happy with making the most of the junky AM p&c in my 2159. I am always short on time though and I’m sure @Stump Shot could do better with vastly more experience.
