I just built this one for a member - new OEM top end and innards. The current new OEM top ends seem to run better than the ones when the 390 first came out. I would bet the timing is a little different.

I ran 660s for 9 years. They did away with them I went to 661s. Needless to say im running 390s in the woods now and the only other saw I'd consider is a 660. 390s nice since you don't need a scrench for the gas and oil.

Mike - I would be interested to run a 390 with a current new top end as compared to an early 390. The newer one just seems quite a bit stronger.

The 661s left a bad taste in a lot of local guys' mouths...Stihl didn't have the kinks worked out of it when it hit the market. One local faller ended up running over his by "accident." Those guys have all gone back to 660s or to the 390 now.

I got one when they first came out. Ran really good for a while then it took a dump. About 3 months in and out of the shop they decided to give me a new one. Redfin ported it and its got a wj69 on now and its trouble free. My cousin is a logger as well and he got the exact same treatment as me with his first 661.

I’m sure y’all saw where I had this one for sale, but I believe I’m gonna piece it back together since I’ve never had one. She gonna be ugly, but pretty don’t get the job done any better.
