Hello All.
Today I did some preventive wrenching on my New 3120. Less than a hour run time on it.
First for those that don't know me.
I'm Ole Skool.
I run 32:1 And good oil at that with NonEth. Fuel.
Knowing this giant was factory dialed 50:1 and my stubbornness would be effectively running lean with 32:1.
So I found the main jet at 1.1 mm as known by many and addressed and corrected that problem.
Also in the 1/2 dozen cuts I made with it.
I noticed excessive exhaust oil on cylinder fins crawling and making a mess.
Oh No No No. ! Homer don't play that either.
I removed the muffler and found the surface not true and hand filed it true.
Also pleased to find a much thicker meaty entry surface than expected. Well over 0.125" thick. I have found sheet metal on many others in years past.
And didn't like the muffler bolts recessed and right against shroud.
I can see the bolts rusting, eroding or pitted and socket not able to really get in there to remove especially with most sockets chamfered so there's you a 2 for 1 problem out of the gate let alone how we know muffler bolts get stubborn.
So I added Stainless flat washers and lock washers.
Really happy with how everything turned out.
Can hear the richer blah at high rev. Not coil cut out lean over rev as before.
And I was able to see a little blue mosquito repellent clouding the area as expected.
I will try to load pics.
May take a few attempts.
It's giving me problems uploading already.

This should help this saw be a survivor and be a dinosaur in 30 or so years like my other, brought over on the Mayflower voyage equipment. The bearings and cylinder will run cooler and be better lubricated.
I'm going to add washers to the allens below too, but I only found a matched set for the muffler. (and wanted to hear it run)impatient.
This was about 2-3 hrs. of killing time today. Just board and been itching to do this anyway.
Hope the pics are viewable, and this meets your approval.

And thanks to ALL the other posts that are informative and helpful on here.

Cheers All.

Welcome to the forum. Know exactly where this is. Worked in Charlotte for years (not now thankfully). Been to Mint Hill and Midland is not that far.
The 3120 is a beast. There is a thread going now from one of the Moderators -- @Mastermind. Take a stroll over there and follow the thread. You'll be glad you did.
Again, welcome.

I'm very happy with the raw power of the 3120.
I come from Homelite 650's and 750's to this.
And a little history.
the 650 & 750 were built in Gastonia NC about 30 miles from here.
been out of production probably 30 year.
And the ones I have still look and run like new.
I know where 1 is that has never had gas in it.
