I'm having feeding issues with my rifle. At this point it's looking like my bullets may be a little long.

The load I'm using is Dan Newberrys 178gr SMK clone. The load shoots sub MOA out to 1000 and I've taken it to a mile.

BUT, I'm only able to single load the rifle. I've been struggling with this issue ever since I've owned it, but I've never made work of getting it looked at. I was assuming that the issue was the follower and spring, but after looking at it closer yesterday it's looking like my bullets are hitting the front in the magwell.

Do any of you guys have a box of factory Federal 178gr Gold Metal Match? If so could you put a calipers on a few rounds and get me a COAL?

I've got reason to believe my rounds are fine and my rifle is from a shoddy gunsmith...... I know @mdavlee had a buddy get a rifle from the same shop I got mine from and he had issues. After doing some digging he discovered that this shop hasn't been fully on the up and up on his stuff...

Can you ramp the mag well there?

That's what I'm thinking needs to be done.

The reason I went with this rifle with a floor plate instead of getting one of the rifles cut out for a mag was because I originally wanted to try some 208 A-max.

Not being limited by a magazine is what I wanted.
From what it's looking like I would have been better off with a mag fed weapon.

How far are you off from the lands?

I would thing any mag or box feed weapon they will be you limiting factors.

Off the top of my head. You really have two options.

Make your COAL shorter so they feed from the box. But are very far off the lands.

Or have your barrel recut for a shorter COAL round.

Or you could work up two different loads.
One for extreme distances, with a long COAL. Then feed them singly.

And one with a shorter COAL that will feed. For faster shorter shots.

Ross have you measured what the maximum Coal is on your rifle?

Are you loading them into the lands or how far off the the lands are you now?

It's always going to be a compromise unless you want to run it single shot.

One more question Ross.
How many rounds do you have through that barrel?

How much has the throat eroded over its life?
That will make the Coal grow on any rifle.
