So this one has me stumped. Low use 2511 with a muffler mod, carb delimit and BG delete. Saw runs very rich. Only tune it will run on is L 3-3/4 out, H all the way in. No pressure or Vac leaks. I’ve been through the carb. Popoff seems okay, lever height is correct, diaphragms look good, needle good, carb looks near new inside and out. I replaced carb with brand new, exact same tune. It starts and runs on this tune but still cokes up spark plugs within 1/2 tank of fuel.

Timing numbers are: Ex 112, Trans 132, Intake 68.

Could a bad coil cause this? The saw runs well with the goofy tune until the spark plug cokes up. My tach says 12,100.

What am I not thinking of?

Spark screen? Seems like a lot on the L, why rich on the L but lean on the H? Bad gas?

Fuel leaking into the carb area?

Maybe it's scared of the 200t...?

Have you had the flywheel off? I had a 268 that ran just like that. The key was sheared and had way retarded timing.

Fuel leaking into the carb area?

Good question on the H/L relationship. Makes me think there has to be an air leak. Carb housing is dry, screen is gone, gas mix is brand new E-free 87 40/1 Red Armor.

Flywheel key is in good shape but that’s why I was thinking coil.

I’m going to pressure test again and swap the coil. That’s all I can think to do.

Opposite of this ms 170 I got for a helper.
Bogs from idle and seems lean. No H or L adjustment.
He had it to dealer twice, no help.
I went through it today and we'll see soon if I helped it.
Going over it, I see I made a big mistake buying it.
Dealer told him, "that's how they are". Really?

Replaced coil with new.

Replaced kill switch. Somebody pinched the top wire between the starter and the main body.

Replaced Tank Vent. Tested purge bulb (good to go and hooked up correctly).

Because I don’t trust BG deletes, I did another pressure/vac test. Holds both all day. I dunked it anyway. Not a single bubble.

She tunes a little closer now. The idle was turned in pretty far so I was able to balance the L and T and work back to L 3turns out H 3/4 turn out. Doesn’t matter though. It’s still so fat it won’t hit 11000 and it wavers constantly. Put it in wood and it falls on its face. I have to walk away for now. I suspect the cylinder. I’ve seen the plating wear away on these like they were sanded. It’s basically impossible to see unless you pull the jug.
