I hate when you have a project that turns into a constant project and not a fleet saw. Same thing happened to me with an 031AV. between electronic modules going out and constant carb problems. I had 4 project saws when finally they went down the road as a project saw to someone else for cheap. Way to stick with it though on this one. Let us know what the fix is this time.

Messed with it a little the other night. Looks like I routed the line to the primer bulb up past the carb wrong (too far fwd, in front of the little plastic tab) and also a little short so it didn’t tuck into the pto side of the carb box...then the line hardened up and was preventing the choke from opening all the way.

Took it all apart tonight and replaced the yellow crap with OEM husky line. Now I need to order another pigtail or two of it. set both screws 1.25 turns out and she fired up and purred. Still need to put the bar etc. on and test in wood.

Made a couple cuts tonight. Runs good, responds to tuning like it should finally. Only thing is book lists max rpm as 13,800 but I’m not getting much if any 4 stroke at that rpm, so I cranked it down until I could hear it, 13,000 Ish

Took it up in the bucket today. Stalls if idling too long, bulb goes dry. Good grief. @Stump Shot you want a project?

Mine is modified heavily, but I can say that low circuit (on mine) likes to be lean. Acceleration suffers some but she likes to be set on the lean side. I think that if you get it on the rich side (like most of my saws) you have to have idle screw in too far and you encroach on mid range?

Anyways, keep it up…. Love mine

Perhaps. Or @Benwa. But I realized I will be needing it soon and don’t have a backup top handle, so I think for now I will have to fix it myself. Need to build that box of 335…

Thinking about a 2511. Lighter would be nicer.

Yes, I’d like to build mine like yours, or have it built.

Bulb goes dry?
Make sure the lines on the primer aren’t backwards and are secure.

I think I did that once….

Runs ok but if left to idle the primer bulb goes dry and it dies.

Sucking air? impulse problem ? Eeny meeny miny mo…

The impulse can get goofed if it goes in the boot wrong. I messed up an impulse from that. The price of learning….

I did mess up the primer tubes once and it seems like I was able to prime the system (backwards?) and then it would die at idle from gravity back-feeding extra fuel from the bulb.

Then again, my memory isn’t great

I forgot, another place to look is the impulse hose itself. Not only can it get messed up on the end at the carb but also in the middle. My saw came with the hose worn through behind the flywheel….

Sorry my posts are all full of errors…. Long day

Maybe you’re right and I hooked them up backwards. I have test cut with it a couple times since I replaced the lines but it mostly sat until today and probably never idled much until today.

Not sure if the bulb rotates, but my hoses are routed so the carb hooks to the top of the bulb and return line hooks to the bottom. When pumped, the fuel in the return line only goes towards the tank. Easy/fast check. I also put zip ties on those buggers.

Hope whatever it is, it is an easy fix….

Took it apart this morning, checked to make sure the lines were hooked up right, and they were. Put it back together, and it seems to run fine, let it idle for a good long time, but haven’t cut with it yet. I may get up in the bucket later and if not I have a bunch of little stuff to clean up on the ground I will use it for to test it out. Need to make sure it’s goodBefore I go to the mountains on the weekend in a couple weeks to take down a 50 foot pine tree over a roof from the bucket.

*the long barb on the bulb is the discharge and the short is the suction.

Probably just needed the cobwebs blown out.

Glad it is back online!

Well, not so lucky. I cut a few limbs on the ground up. Seemed a little slow to respond and maybe low on power, then noticed the bulb dry again though it didn’t die idling immediately. So I pulled the bulb (note that the short barb has IN marked at the base of it in tiiiiny letters) and the bulb tested bad. Blows out thru the IN when compressed with OUT plugged. I stole one from a blower I was given to troubleshoot (facepalm) and it tested good. Installed it and made some more cuts and let it idle for a long time and the bulb stayed full, also seems to run better. So I think it’s good for now…until the next time I need it up in the bucket I’m sure.

Man, with old saws it seems like one should just go through and replace anything rubber or fiber that might dry up and fail. The guy that sold it to me (tree co) probably figured that out already
