A set for a 66 and a 46 was $160 over here.

Anyone got any detailed info on the 066 red light swap to an unlimited coil?

I know it was discussed else where somewhere else but it got confusing

From memory I need to use either a dual key alloy flywheel or a polly flywheel.

The polly flywheel needs the bigger crank fitted, which needs a later model longer case fitted, so I might as well just get an MS660

I want to keep the red light with its original low volume short case so will the dual key alloy flywheel fit the small shaft crank that's in it now?

In the aluminum flywheel 066's you will need the dual keyway to convert to the unlimited coil. All the aluminum flywheel saws have the small end crank....The poly flywheel saws are just another kettle of fish.

Mike I have had the same issue with the 066 vs the 046. I sold my 066 and replaced it with a 395 for my 36" bar saw, and am much happier. The first time a ran a 460, I said to myself, this is a ballsy saw. And my 046 has it all over that 460. I expected a bit more than an 044, but they really are not in the same league, at least to me. I knew then the writing was on the wall for the 066 and me. That was about a year before the vibe issue really hit. Even my 088 and late AV 090 do not bother me like the 066. My elbows know the difference and cortisone shots in them just ain't no fun at all.

In unported form the 460 & 046 never really impressed me compared to my 044s, but when you get them ported it is a whole nuther story.

I know the 1st year 046s were stronger, but I was not fortunate enough to have one of them.

However, both my ported 460s now have ported 046-D jugs on them, and they run very strong.

I agree. The 460 ported has noticeable torque over the 440

Keith, I really like my ported 044 with the 28" light bar cause it is a very light weight felling saw, and it makes it easier for me to use it on difficult terrain and to get my angles right. I also prefer the 044 with a 20" bar for limbing, but for bucking, I just love the ported 460s, they eat wood fast!

Mike, my 046 is a first year saw and is like comparing a 10mm 044 to a 12mm when up against even a strong stock 460. Funny thing is the 10mm sounds wicked like it's mildly ported where the early 046 just sounds like a regular 460.

I heard the first year saws were very strong, you don't need to convince me. Unfortunately, most 046s are not first year saws. Enjoy that saw. I was supposed to buy one, it was a creampuff with the dp muff cover from the factory. I was still in Tax Season last year, with one day to go. I told the guy I wanted it, sight unseen, and he agreed to sell it to me and "hold it for a day", gave me directions & everything. When I called back to say I was on my way, he told me he already sold it! I was not happy!
