Plug that decomp, not really needed and it’s a source of a possible leak.
I agree but it's not my saw nor my money. I dont mind working on it so it's not a big deal. With the time and $ spent working on these things one could build a decent 372/440... and a 026 or 346 type saw is a better small firewood saw than a farmboss. I wouldn’t mess with a farmboss that far gone, would just use it for parts support. I wouldn’t trust those am parts on it either. Just imho.
Hopefully the cylinder cleans up. Have had good luck with meteor or hyway pistons.I agree but it's not my saw nor my money. I dont mind working on it so it's not a big deal.
You pop a 039 topend on it and watch the ear to ear grin on your buddies face!Good info, I have a buddy that has a 290 getting a little tired and was talking to him this weekend about just this swap. I get that the clamshell saws are low grade but how do you argue with a guy that's cut 14 cord a year for six years with one and it never skipped a beat?
I'm gonna do that but not tell him until after he cuts with it.You pop a 039 topend on it and watch the ear to ear grin on your buddies face!

I can get three bills outta one around here. I won't leave them in the junk pile.
They're not even close to my favorite saw to work on but after you do a few they're not terrible.
Everyone has their own opinions on what's good and what's bad. Sometimes those opinions are formed by personal experience and sometimes by hearsay or advertising influence. I have personally owned and used nearly every brand of saw and I have my favorites and certainly a brand preference but allow for others that have their own opinions. Any saw that reliably starts and runs can cut wood and I could do what I do with any brand. That’s about all there good for, selling on craigslist. Amazing what people will pay for a name. If it’s a stihl farmboss or husky rancher it must be what the pros use. Lol
