Think I got 'er sorted (finally). I wussed out on cutting the tower vent down, rationalizing that decision by telling myself I can just pop it on with my old flocked filter and cover if I get in a jam with the 260 vent & filter setup. What allowed me to do this was finding a universal vent at a local Echo dealer. It's actually an Echo part # A356000031. Didn't have to wait for one from Feebay. Used a #6 fuel line that provided a real good interference fit with the nipple on the tank (hose goes inside the nipple) and the nipple on the vent. It's still a little high but it fits inside the cover just fine. I probably could have gotten it a little closer to the tank if I chopped one of the barbs off the tank vent, thereby shortening the nipple and allowing me to shorten the hose.

Best I could come up with to plug the filter compensator hole was a rubber stopper I found at the hardware store. Cheesy but effective.

I'll pull the tach out this weekend and see how it does.

Looks good to me!

Those white universal vents work fine, have used them on many saws . The vent can be located much higher up if one wants to, just use a longer piece of hose/line and locate the vent up behind the air filter. Have done this on a half dozen 025`s that needed vent replacements. Cutting down the original high tower vents is not for everyone, more for us tinkerers/modders that like to adapt original parts, much easier to swap in a suitable replacement.

Ran across this thread recently, I have read it over and over. Now I have a question for my 026 non pro. The vent was missing when I acquired the saw . I’m thinking this is not the original tank because of my serial number is so early, x19 187 650. I think the saw came with the tall black vent, but that certainly won’t work here. Check out the fuel cap, the ridges around the edge are very fine. Is that an older cap on a newer tank? So far I have replaced the duckbill but I see that the area is going to fill up with sawdust quickly. I’m looking for a source for the missing parts. Someone that will get it right the first time. My local dealer is no help whatsoever.

Your eyesight is very good! You are correct, put gas in today and it came squirting out untill I tightened too much for my liking. That part is on the short list. Researching part numbers now.

If you see those ridges on the recoil cover near the fuel cap, that is another clue that it is an early saw. Lots of these have been reconfigured over time. Lots of versions, maybe more than any other saw out there?

I think you nailed it Glenn. Looks like you could use a new rubber gasket on the fuel cap too. I hate a fuel leak...

Would you agree that the tank most likely has been changed due to the vent style? Don't sugar coat it for me....

Your 026 may not be all original, but that doesn't matter. The starter cover and gas caps are older. The fuel tank is newer. It is translucent. The fuel tank that matches the fuel cap was solid white.
As long as saw runs good is all that counts. [emoji106]

Look at post number 140: Red lever early, tower vent early, transparent tank late, smooth recoil late, deep ridge fuel cap late.

It is just endless with these things. They all tend to rip (for their weight) with an open exhaust and two screw carburetor.

Vent parts came in today. Everything fits great, here is my take on the vent thing...
These parts fit a tank that it transparent, has screw in fuel cap, not a flip, has the old style fuel line, and a black rubber duck check valve. I would go as far to say that if you know you have any 3 of the above, you probably have all of the above on your saw.
