You have to wonder why Stihl walked away from the tank vent design that worked on the 028 Wood Boss for years and years and designed the duckbill. Maybe the design engineer liked shooting ducks.

Same issue with an 026 here right now. Same style duck bill in my tank too. Did a new duck bill solve your issues? Why is there an extra hole in the tank to the rear of the duck bill hole?

Extra hole circled. I thought my tank was defective...clearly its not. I am guessing the top and filter are to hold the sides down tight and keep that from venting.

LOL, now Jimmy. The center hole is completely blocked by the umbrella retainer nub, the second hole is what allows air to enter the tank past the umbrella`s lip, the lip also seals air /fumes inside the tank. The older tall black tower vent allowed air and fuel fumes to vent both ways, that became a no no due to increasing EPA regs.

I thought the air came through the middle of the duck bill.

If that is the case, I have to wonder why the EPA did not ban millions, if not all, gasoline cans sold in the USA for at least 60 years. That includes the ones that I have been using for the last 30 years.

I thought mine was a made fit but seeing the exact same thing here says it was factory... especially since the OP got parts at the dealer. I think the key is getting the proper sintered filter and cap with a new black duck bill.

Mine had the orange duckbill type insert. I also used the sintered high top style. Works great so far.

I thought it was the vent that used the orange umbrella type valve but the center hole does look a tad large for that type. Bet someone opened that center hole up to use the black duckbill type. There would be no reason to have the second hole on an original black duckbill vent, the second hole is used for the orange vent . Who knows what has been done to used saws to make them work. All newer saws are required to have a sealed type one way tank vent that only allows air in to replace the fuel drawn out, no air or fumes to escape.

I agree ... but this saw showed no use. Means nothing ..... but I still think the proper top will make it work proper.

Yeah it’s kinda small. I tried the black ones but they wouldn’t fit. Didn’t wanna drill it out so I got another orange one.

I'm confused... you show pictures of the black one in a previous post installed.

Were you able to make the small orange work where the large black was?

Yep I'm tuned in. Stihl changed the tank vent. The IPL shows several different options.
The black stack is most common on the 026 old style tanks. And yes I do hate the duck bills (also wondering on why
they changed it from the 028). Some one please give the engineer a swift kick for me.

This is the Orange mushroom everyone talks about. Note the size difference vs the black one... also not split like a duck bill. These are OEM from Dave.

As a fellow Tarheel I do hope you are making ground breaking discoveries on all this. The world cannot spin tomorrow -- if not!
