I hear you. Good points.
As far as I can tell, mine are all original. I bought an extra tank for just in case. Lol

OK this is the vent setup that this tank dictated.

That the one we figured out with the measurements of the base where the vent filter and cap fits in?

Only including that tidbit due to several saws being dropped off to me that had busted rear handles and the replacement tanks were not from the same year as the saw chassis.

This saw came in missing plastics, air filter, tank vent filter/cover, clutch cover. It is a clear tank saw. The saw shows less than 5 hours of run time. Why it was taken apart I have no idea but it had been sitting for years.

This tank also takes the smaller molded line [NLA] not the 11.5mm one.

The tree service that wanted this saw hangs his saws bar down on the side of the chip truck. Leaking fuel is a real concern for him as it dribbles all over his chip truck and potentially on customer lawns and drives.

The duck bill I replaced had a very slight deformation. I am guessing age had gotten to the rubber (it's probably between 15-20 years old) and was not sealing like it should on the tank.

New black duck bill, filter, and proper cover and it seems to do fine right now.

I like the mystery saws that come my way as a bunch of parts in a box. The most recent one was given to me by a fellow that should never work on equipment. He had torn the saw down 20 years ago, it was practically brand new when he did and he forgot how to put it back together but he never found out what was wrong in the first place. He should have looked in the fuel tank first....LOL
I put it all back together and it only cost me for a carb kit, maybe not necessary but did it anyway, and a new style fuel line, I made the tank hole larger and do that on all the 026`s I replace fuel lines in now.

I snapped a few quick pics of my spare tank.
Which vent is needed here?

The one I have that looks like that leaks (bad). I wonder if maybe it has the wrong cap? Doubt it, as it was basically NOS when I bought it. What I would like to do is retrofit it with the black duckbill insert, or maybe the 260 style. Has anybody been down that road?

What you have is the latest style of 026 valve. IMHO it's the best. I'd get a new rubber flapper / check valve and roll on.

TY sir
Is this my best option? Only option? Or is it possible for me to upgrade to a better vent?

Like Jimmy said, its the latest version, it works well, parts are easy to find and if it were me I would keep it original and just replace the parts that are missing. All these various vents worked well if the parts of them were still in good physical condition, Stihl only changed them as they were forced to do to meet EPA pollution conditions that the EPA was bound to change every few years.

Very good. Thank you all for good info in this cool thread.
026/260 was probably the most popular pro saw Stihl sold. Many many saws out there.
