Triple 7 muzzleloader powder

I've been using Triple 7 2F powder in my front stuffers for a few years now and am quite happy with it. Easy to find in stock, price is reasonable, never seen any evidence that it is corrosive. My one and only gripe is, accuracy seems to fall away faster compared to BP and Pyrodex as the fouling builds up. Those of you that use it, how many shots can you fire before accuracy falls away? I'm currently shooting 65 grains under a 250 grain Lee REAL lead bullet in my NEF Huntsman. The first 5 or 6 shots are pretty much dead on, next 5 or 6 will wander a little bit. After that fuhgedaboutit, might as well be shooting a smoothbore with an undersize round ball. Back when I used Pyrodex RS, it seemed that accuracy would get worse as fouling built up but there wasn't a sudden point of no return as with T7. I have a few cans of T7 still and would rather use most of that up before I start trying other sub powders.

When I switched from real black I went with clean shot. Loved that stuff burnt clean and wasn't hard to clean up after wards.
Never used prydex heard to many horror storys abouthe stuff like in just day.

So when clean shot got sued for makeing pellets when it had been patneted by the comany that still today makes pellets I went with T 7 Great powder shoots well and has lots of ump at 150 yards.

Never had the crud ring every one in the late 1990's and early 2000's were whineing about.
I shot the stuff in my T/C Hawkins, a T/C plains rifle and A 50 cal Remington 700 and 54 cal Remington 700 inline.
I have experminted with the stuff and accrury drops off after 2 shots enough I just swab between shots at the range and every 2 shots if I need more when hunting.

I carry the little square pads that they use to wipe your arm at the dr.'s office when they are doing. afinger prick to draw blood.







I want to shoot a lot with out cleaning i grap a center fire rifle.



If I have to take more than two shots at a deer I need to practice more.

I guess I'm doing good to get 5 or 6 out of it then! I don't shoot my front stuffers beyond about 70 yards anyway.

Never used the powder in question but years ago when i shot in two different muzzle loader clubs we regularly shot 50 to 75 shots in a day. The old guys taught me to fire a fouling shot and then swab with a dripping wet patch then a tight dry patch then load , fire and repeat. Never had a problem with hard loading or accuracy. At the end of the day a couple wet patches and a couple dry patches and an oil patch then put it away. There were some seriously good shooter in the clubs. They all did it this way. One club was flint, patched ball, black powder only. Other allowed any powder and caps. A fellow considered an expert told me that if you wet swab between shots the residue doesn't get a chance to harden in the grooves. Not sure about that but it works.

If you are getting fouling buildup between shots try swabbing a dripping wet patch with you favorite "juice" then follow with a tight dry patch twice then load and shoot and see how the accuracy and fouling problem holds up over a number of shots.

I use these swabs between shots so the rifle will be really really clost to how it is loaded the morning of the hunt.


Run the patch down and back out flip it and run in and back out. they are alcohol so they evraporate quick. No need to dry patch. Use a tight jag and wouldn't hurt to carry a patch retriver jag.

Ok, I was able to put about 20 rounds through the Huntsman this afternoon. I found that a wet swab then a dry swab every third shot would keep pretty consistent accuracy, never saw it fall off. The weather was not good for accurate shooting and the arthritis in my fingers was really affecting my trigger squeeze. Still, everything was minute of deer at 50 yards which is really all I need.
