So here's the issue guys. This piece of metal is suppose to be welded to the crank like the opposite side.
I have had this happen before a few years ago. Simple solution, Either I replace the crank or I reweld
the weight back on. I'm gonna weld it back on tomorrow. These cranks are getting harder to find in
good usable condition.
Simple solution is to never tap on either end of these 123cc Mac cranks. The SP125's have bolt on weights
where all 797's and 101's are welded weights.
Will be going back together tomorrow.
Hard to plug weld with the other counter weight in the way. I will tig
it back on with a little better weld.

What filler rod are you going to use ?
Do you preheat the crank ?

I’m wondering if a good tig braze might be better for him. May actually be stronger because it may wick in to areas he can’t reach with torch. Especially if he preheats the crank.

@Lee H , thoughts to silbronze?

I don't have any experience with that stuff Al. I'll google it and see if it may be a better option.

That would be an excellent option for this applicaton, but he'd have to get her pretty hot to wick it in. We use that stuff all the time for copper buss bars here at work. It's pretty easy to do, just a little Flux and some good heat....

I was looking at these cranks on the interweb last evening and I saw a few that appeared to have the weights silver brazed, I'm sure for the same reasons that Lee encountered.....

On the previous cranks I did I used the ss rod cuz the original appeared to be that.
And when I ground the old welds there were definitely some sort of steel.

Lee, here's a pic of a crank I came across last evening, appears to be silver-brazed.

That would probably bomb-proof those counterweights....definitely worth reading up on, might want to do both of them while you have that saw apart. Just make sure the heat isn't going to mess up the crank.

Is that SilFoS ?
That looks like gas brazing rod
