I will say that you can take advantage of the fact that you can dress the wheel profile how ever you want it.....

I did a little experimenting with the wheel shape myself....when I dressed the wheel for a chisel chain, I profiled the bottom of the wheel a little more square than round.....I know for a fact it produced great results because it was my chain.....

@Philbert have you or any other of you guys played with the wheel profile shape any????

If so what did you do and what were your results??????
There are a few guys who have shaped a pink wheel for grinding rakers. They shape it in a way to get a curved profile with a slight angle just as you would find on many stock chains. I don't care to much about it and grind them at 10 degrees and I'm done.

Ya they did send me a bigger wheel that I will never use, I shaped it for rakers...... however on my personal chains u usually file them off at 0-10 degrees like you said and be done with it....

1/4" wheel is primarily used for depth gauges, but the 5/16 can also be used for 3/4" pitch chain - I like it for depth gauges due to the wider profile.

Well guys I will have a lot of time to get all my chains (and friends chains) sharpened here this month or next....I got bad news Friday and found out I have a damn hernia..... I don't know how I got along all these 31 years without one until now, but at any rate I do.....they are acting like I may have to get it operated on, and possible down time of 4-6 weeks....I can't believe it.....my supervisor said look at it as a vacation til spring, well easier said then done!!!!!

I have been ordering parts for saws I am goin to rebuild while I am "down", and hopefully I get some more customers that want their chains sharpened........

Made me a stand for my HOS. Pretty pleased with the way it turned out. Old girl still works pretty good. I'll definitely be getting a CBN wheel soon.

Very nice, that chain will flat out cut!!!!!!!

How long have you been using that grinder????

I will say, you will love the CBN.....I still use the stone wheels, especially when cleaning out a bad gullet....

I have had it about three years, but haven't used it in about a year because I thought I was gonna have to move and packed a lot of chainsaw stuff up. Things changed and just recently got it back out. I bought it used off AS if I remember correctly. It's not in pristine condition by any means, but it is very well built and parts are still available if needed.

I remember when I was "against grinders" lol..... then I got one and realized that you can turn out a GREAT chain with them, IF you put in effort to learn how to set them up/use them!!!!

I am so glad I got mine when I did!!!!

I've gotta' Foley, had it for so long I can't remember the model #...it's a very well built unit, BUT, it is not "symetric". That's saying you gotta set it up for leftt/right each time.
have had it probably near 20 years with no troubles.
Hey that's a good old grinder I bet!!!!!

If you get a chance get some pics of the teeth after you grind them.....I am a "chain geek" so I like pictures of grinders, and chains LOL!!!!

Well guys I am waiting on parts to arrive for my saw rebuilds, so I got some time with the grinder yesterday....I ground my dad's chains which are all the .325 RM semi-chisel.....well after I got his chains done I ground a .325 18" RS full-chisel chain that I acquired....

So anyway I tried something just a little different in this chisel chain......I used my "regular" settings which are 30--55--0(on Stihl chain)..... what I did different was grind a little deeper into the tooth, which creates a little more hook or beak...I don't think it is to aggressive, but I haven't cut with it yet.... I also used the stone wheel on the RS(chisel) chain....I used the 1/8 wheel on all these .325 chains.....

The first 2-pics are the RS chain.....the last 3-pics are RM(semi-chisel) chains.....comments, questions, concerns all very much appreciated LOL!!!!!!
