Another name comes to mind, Joyce the "Chainsaw lady " .From what I gather she and her husband sold Homelite brand for many years .She knew the history of that company very well .For a period of time she sold a bunch of NOS parts that might have gone back 40 plus years .I bought a few things including a file guide for 1/4" files used on 1/2" gear drive chains which is something you don't see every day .She lived some place in Indiana I think .
Yes I remember Joyce "the chainsaw lady ". I don't have her package address in front of me as I'm away on holidays.
About 7 years ago she sent me 12 issues of Chainsaw Age magazines from the 1960's , what a treat that was. Yes she knew her inventory alright, she had a great life as a Indiana Homelite dealer.
She is getting well up in age, I hope she is still around. Haven't seen her post anything for a few years now.

I think Joyce would be around 90 now. A few years ago, I bought a bunch of stuff from her and she told me she was in her early 80's then. Joyce is awesome.

I was looking in the front of my McCulloch collections of IPL's I got via Bobs Lawnmower engine service in Maryland New York .He lists obsolete parts for McCulloch .Pioneer ,Poulan .I had bought a few things through the years . His daughter listed a lot of things on E-bay including this dealers book plus several others .I'm not certain if he's still among the living or not . That said the best time to buy parts is when you see them because they won't be around for ever .

That part of southern Indiana is like a dead zone .Cell phones don't work or GPS . You make a wrong turn you might go around in circles forever before you find your way out .Been there and done that .

Even in the city literally across the river (Jeffersonville, New Albany) service is awful. I was working at the Ewing Lane lift station back in July and I had literally no service. The guys just up the street were trying to call me and I only found out once they went looking.

Go north, and it’s game over. Anywhere between Clarksville and Salem and it’s really bad.

We attended a wedding at some country club in Indiana across the river from Louisville and stayed in Louisville . Some how I made a wrong turn and ended up in the land of high taxes and bad roads .Not knowing the highway system I just kept heading north until I found Indianapolis and followed I-70 to Dayton .4 hours going via I-75 and 6 hours coming back on Indiana cow paths ----mumble grumble

First time I ever dealt with her was for some duckbill valves. I asked about paying her, and she said just to send the payment back after I got the parts.

Yes.....Joyce is awesome.

Going back a ways on AS there was some discussion on the timeframe of when the xl12 came out and whether it was really was the first of that pivotal design/style saw. The competing 'copies' came out so quickly that it sort of blurred the timeline in history just a bit.
Joyce chimed in and pretty much put that one to rest, in concisely dated detail.
An amazing window into an amazing time in chainsaw history...

"Your question brings back memories. In August 1963 our salesman Fats Herbert from the Cincinnati branch brought a prototype of the XL-12. We were dealers from 1951 to 2004. My husband was so impressed he said he would take 50 by the first of October and if they didn't get them by then to take off one saw every day. On Oct. 3, they called and had the order at Cincy. All the serial numbers started with 150 and as yet I haven't seen a number any lower. We had a blue Buick station wagon and somehow we got all of them loaded into that vehicle. Had to remove a few from the box.
I remember him explaining to us that an engineer of Homelite worked on this in his basement so other companies couldn't spy on what they were doing. When it appeared most of the other manufacturers stopped everything and spent there time trying to copy it as much as they could.
Lombard did a real good job and Remington also. Hope this is of interest to the younger generation."
