Maybe a combination of bad mix and dull chain on a hot day?
Let the bar get pinched good and yank the heck out of it.Yes, and that could be where the air leak emerged. However that is rare for OEM parts that are this new. I will check that. But, it's not even easy to reach that boot with a knife. Frankly, Kenneth, I am just as perplexed about this engine failure as you and the owner are.
Hands down Stihl 026/ms260 if you port it. If leaving stock or mildly modded, the ms261 can't be beat. Only one man's opinion of course....which one?
I think the only "hole" in my lineup is a good, or "pro" 50cc...
Yes I second the 361. If you’re talking new only I would get a 261c. I will say my 2149/53 is a much better saw than my new 261c. It’s stronger built and fasterJust to be the the guy who throws out an opinion you’re not asking for ....You could go to the top of the 50cc range and get a 361 with 59cc. Those seem to appeal to the husky crowd.

You say that like it's a bad thing...I got 60ccs comin out my ears

I paid $335 for the 2166 pretty much like new, just had to put a spark plug thread repair insert in it.You could have bought a new Stihl MS441c-m for a grand or so. Yes, it's heavy. Some guys like that weight. Just hold it in place and let it buck cut to high heaven with a 24"+ bar. To each his own.
Grind the transfer covers out, and you’ll have a 2172. I think that’s what they call the red 372s. I did it for an arborist buddy, and he loves it.I paid $335 for the 2166 pretty much like new, just had to put a spark plug thread repair insert in it.
I did the same for a boss at work and he loves it too!Grind the transfer covers out, and you’ll have a 2172. I think that’s what they call the red 372s. I did it for an arborist buddy, and he loves it.
I'm certainly not Stihl expert (or chainsaw expert in general) and it certainly doesn't fill a hole in your lineup, but as a die-hard Husky guy, I'm certainly smitten by what I see with 462s...
I'll never drop the kind of coin Stihl wants for a 500i...
