Where do I start. Three year old JohnDeere. Tried to mow my yard this weekend. No Start. Backfires.

Spark plugs are dry.

Verified spark on both plugs.

Float bowl is full, gas squirts out of the hose when I start it disconnected.

Sprayed the carb in all directions ( Now I need a new bowl gasket ) inserted small cleaner into the bottom of the inlet. Its not blocked period.

I sprayed fuel into directly the intake. Try to start, all I get is a backfire.

I last used it 3 months ago. No problems. Started, stopped it normally. Fuel is new, not the problem. Does not even try to start. And like I said the sparkplugs are bone dry. The fuel never makes it into the combustion chamber.

I cant do anything now until Wed after I go get a new float bowl gasket.

The way you see it in this pic where the blue rags are, I sprayed starting fluid in their. Try to start. BANG. Nothing.

Make sure the choke is shutting the whole way. Some of those engines pop when they are not getting enough fuel to start. Another possibility is that an intake valve is stuck open, causing combustion flame to come back into the intake.

Sounds like something over my head. Other than the choke. I've tried it in all positions, but once I get the carb back on I will look more closely at that when I try to start it again. The book tells me to start cold with full throttle and choke. I've tried it both ways with nothing.

If theres an intake valve stuck, this means engine work I assume?

This is the Kawasaki motor.

ETA I'm surprised how little information I can find on this mower online. Its a Z530M 54. Only video or articles Are reviews and oil changes.

Make sure that the choke shaft is moving freely in the carburetor. There is a little spring to return the choke lever to the off position and if the plastic choke lever swells and gets to where it moves stiffly, the spring can’t move it.

A compression test will rule out or help confirm a stuck valve, if you have a tester or can borrow one.

Ok if you put your thumb on the spark plug hole it should have enough compression to blow it off. MAKE SURE THE SPARK PLUG WIRE IS GROUNDED OR OUT OF THE WAY!! Electricity hurts!! If that checks out fine I'd replace or clean the carb.
