The wood yard I do maintenance for has a Wood-miser Hydraulic with a Kohler Command Pro 28, fuel-injected motor. It started having issues the other day after non-use for a few weeks. It ran for a while then died. now, it won't start at all, just cranks.
I know nothing about these things and there are no mechanics anywhere near here so...:p
I'll do some research and download any schematics and manuals I can find.
my initial guess is fuel delivery or electrical issue, or both.

If anyone has any info on these things I'd appreciate any help.

Thanks1000005810.jpg1000005808.jpg1000005803.jpg

Sounds like an electrical problem for sure.

from a quick search it seems these wiring harnesses aren't the greatest...wires get pinched and ground out. Tracing the entire harness will be a pita, however :p I'd like to disassemble as little as possible to get to it.
That said...this mill has seen long, hard use and the motor probably needs a full service done to it. Problem is finding a qualified tech around here to do that. Mark found a guy in MT who might be able to drive down.

We have a similar problem here - no one wants to do small engines anymore. I've become the de facto for my neighborhood but I don't have the time to do too many and no one else here will take those kind of repairs on. Usually they're stuck driving their stuff over to the valley 60-90 minutes one-way.

Take an extra spark plug and plug it in place of one in the head. Lay it on the engine and try to fire it up. If spark, fuel, no spark, electrical. All I got!

Edit, some engines have an oil level sensor. Low oil cuts off spark.

I would check that fuel filter also. I imagine plenty of fine saw dust has made it's way into the gas tank over time, potentially plugging the fuel filter.
Plenty of fuel flow past the 2nd filter and good flow between the cylinders ..there’s a check valve.

Not a low oil sensor, but an oil pressure sensor. They do go to hell. If you have no spark, unplug the sensor and check again.
Ah, didn’t think of that

I see a multi-meter and lots of wire tracing in my future…

I would treat it as any other small motor, check spark, if it sparks give it a prime, see what happens and go from there, it may have an electric fuel pump and that is gonna be my internet guess thats whats going on.

I have not seen a kohler fuel injected motor yet, but have seen a couple fuel injected honda generators come across my bench, both hondas had fuel filters that plugged causing fuel delivery issues.

your profile says your in ID not sure which part, im local to Troy, MT but regularly travel to the Sandpoint area and north of there for service calls on various types-sizes of equipment

Might have it figured out. The key switch is multi-pole and sends power to the starter, ignition and fuel pump. One contact is dead. Ordered new switch…we’ll see.

Nah, Mark did all that. He called me with the report :p
He bypassed wires and clamped things together to make it run. Certainly not a great solution but worked enough to figure out the problem.
