Suggestions? Looks like some burls there. Possible signs of metal. Should be a mostly solid log. How thick should table slabs be: 2", 3", 4"? Don't mind the mill in the background, this will be chainsaw milled.

Slabs for a table would be my choice. I'd go 3" so I could finish with at least 2.5".

How big is it? And how pissed will you be if you hit metal? I make my slabs about 2-2.5” so I can lift them by myself.

Not my chain & I get paid to sharpen, not that I enjoy fixing rocked chains. Normally it would go to the firewood pile, but the burls would make a mess splitting and the owner wants to try getting it milled.

Yup I agree… check out that shake and staining in the butt… and the sapwood appears to look punky. Looks like a genuine POS firewood log. Lol

That chit log is bunk.
Burn it unless your buying gallons of epoxy.

You want a pic of a decent white oak log that is sitting on my trailer with some bunk chit?

Oh btw... those are not burls but old cut off limbs grown over. Plus the grain is twisted in two places. It will curl like a potato chip.

Could be machine paint, but I definitely see a suspicious little spot, and the saw I suspect they used showed some dulling. I'll see what the guy thinks about metal and dulling his new ripping chains.

More than machine bluing. Cut a couple inches off 7the butt and see what you got! Is it a town tree?
