What bar mount will modify to fit 084?

Hi Folks.

Firstly, I'm after a bar about 18 to 22" to fit on my 084 that I can run 3/8 .050 chain on for some informal fun/racing with mates.

I cant find much in the way of 50 guage short bars to fit the large stihl mount and was wondering if anyone can help me out with a possible candidate for modification to fit.

Any suggestions?

You can mod a 3003 mount. Just have to open it up. There are a few threads on it. I did it on a few bars.

File the shoulder off of the bottom of the stud. That is 2mm and will let the bar fit. This is done on the bottom in order to raise the oil hole location up closer to the proper location. Then slot the oil hole on the bar as needed. Finally you install the sprocket and loop of the correct length chain and remove just enough metal in the bar slot for the protruding adjuster screw to fit. Your bar will be smaller and, unless a fat bar, less expensive so milling and refilling the bar itself may be a cleaner option.

How about a no mod needed 16" (the back one). I can check and see if they still sell them. Just cheap bar for play.

That would be perfect.

The other option is cutting down a 24" to get a wider heel for big sprockets

D009 has a fat enough tail to make everything match up. Old school McCulloch bars also have a fatter tail and work well. They both need a little oil hole locating.
I like to pick up extra bar studs to modify them instead of enlarging the slot on the bar, that way I can use the bar on other saws.

The killer is getting an 050 bar in Australia in the first place.

The only reason to modify studs it because you don't want to mess up a $150 light bar or $300 50" Cannon. Studa are cheaper but in this case the short bars are cheap enough.

Short "race" bars Don, cheap or not the right ones are always hard to find. And when you do find the right one you still need to put time into modifying it. Then 20 hours plus on a good race chain will have you trying to run the same 20" b&c on everything you can make it fit.
I'll give away my 54" cannon before I'd sell my 20" racing speed tip.

I understand, but I'm not into racing, just cutting the big wood when I find it.
