Well, Rocketnorton and I swapped starter housing and both are enroute to their destinations. Unfortunately, neither are projected to arrive until next week. So now I gotta butter up little brother to borrow his starter along with his clutch cover to test this ported KS cylinder...and right now I'm fighting with a clogged kitchen sink drain....grrrrrrr!

Was planning on finishing assembly of the 288 tonight but it's not looking like that's going to happen.. dammit

Are you referring to the housing immediately surrounding the metering lever as opposed to the gasket surface? If so, that makes sense. I saw that it was well below the gasket surface and went ahead and measured it so I would have a clue.
Yes now you have the right idea. The gasket area is way to high.

Thank you much Sir. Set the lever as you described. :) The previous one was set too high.

So, freshly rebuilt carb and intake tract installed on cylinder. Mounting it up now. View attachment 108921
Good deal it looks like your almost ready for some test cuts.

Well I went to put the clutch on and realized I'm a friggen idiot and forgot to get a clutch bearing and rim sprocket when I picked up my other parts today. So, off to Kahlers first thing in the morning because I'm gonna try this thing out tomorrow!

Anyway, flywheel and ignition in.

Did you get the throttle figured out?

Exhaust and front spring mount done. Took a little fenangling to get the muffler support bracket bolted up due to the cylinder sitting a bit lower without the base gasket but she's there. This is an HL Supply muffler and bracket. They seem to be really nice :).

Now when I post a vid of this thing, keep in mind that I did not match this muffler to the enlarged exhaust port as I intend to run my Mahle cylinder with a simple BG delete for awhile. Also, I have not modified this muffler in any way yet. IMG_20180126_204603180.jpg

Just a heads up on the HL mufflers , they are thin metal. I’ve only been able to braze them as I only have a mig and it want adjust down low enough to not blow holes and I can only dream of having a tig welder. Anyway, they braze well.
Great job on the saw

Success!! Aside from a few other parts like the aforementioned rim sprocket, clutch bearing and chainbrake, this saw is pretty much done! She pulled 180psi cold and runs awesome thus far. Only idling with a few mild blips on the throttle as there is no clutch on it just yet. Just had to hear it run and so far I love it!

Going to borrow Josh's clutch cover and starter tomorrow and get a few test cuts in. There will be video of it and one of us will post it up along with vids of his 288 in the same log for comparison.
