Yes Sir Dale, thought I ordered one from my local guy but I didn't. Will get ordered tomorrow.

Anyway, here is Dale's KS cyl mounted up for determining base timing. Came in at 106/124/69 with no gasket. We are going to shoot for 101/120/78 with widening of the exhaust and seeing what I can do with the intake. That's all for tonight. IMG_20180121_175956076.jpg

@Daserlon looking at those numbers I'm pretty confident I can make some farily substantial improvements just putting the timing where I want it without doing the extra work on the intake and exhaust.. But I'm going to be working them too as well. The plan is to get your cylinder finished up and get some side x side comparison with Josh's BG deleted 288 and your KS on my bottom end. Planning to take some vid of both cutting on the same 24" sugar maple Josh just dropped today, using the same B&C on both saws. One of two things will happen, we will all be thrilled or I'll be eating humble pie!! LOL!

Joe I've never had a ported saw so I think I'll be impressed with whatever you do. That cylinder was pretty snotty in stock form so anything above that will be awsome! Plus I'm super excited.

The cylinder mounted on the case right now is the KS. That's the one you are wanting to keep, correct? Just making sure because I could have sworn you said the Mahle was the stout one in stock config. Either way, it's not a big deal. I just want to make sure I'm sending the correct cylinder back to you. The plan is to get your cylinder ported, tested, videoed, and then get it on it's way back to MT. :)

After that, I'll finish my build with the remaining cylinder. If the Mahle is for me to keep, my plan is to just do a BG delete for now and compare it to Josh's 288 with a BG deleted KS. I'm curious to compare both cylinders on equal ground and un-modified except for the BG delete before I go porting mine.

Yep my intention is to keep the KS. The mahle is yours for the decomp provision. Compare both cyl's before you mount them. I bet your Mahle will eat Josh's KS, Sorry Josh. You'll be surprised how much ,visualy, the transfer port size differance is.

Yes Sir, and we did visually compare the two cylinders already. You are right, very noticeable difference indeed! I'm also curious to see how the timing numbers compare between the two.

It's looking like a fairly quiet week as far as weather this week. I'm going to see if I can spend a couple afternoons in the barn working over your cylinder. Found a few other parts I have to order from my local guy this week. Should have all of it by week's end. If all goes to plan, we might be making cuts with it by this coming weekend

Dang, stinks to miss out on something like that.

No progress on the 288 today unfortunately. Had some work related issues I have been wrangling all evening, just got done with it 10 minutes ago.

My goal is to get the exhaust port done tomorrow after work.

I wish I had some to post tonight. I am a shop steward at my work and we had a problem today that followed me home and tied me up till just a little while ago. I had planned to peck away a couple hours after work the next few days on porting the cylinder. Should be able to get some done tomorrow. I should be posting pics of the finished exhaust port. Will that do?? ;)

I fully expect that Mahle to run better than my KS if my ports are as tiny as the one you sent. Big difference between the two, I can see why the Mahle ran strong stock. Here’s mine with 28” bar, full comp square chisel chain and 8 pin. Cutting that sugar maple joe mentioned. I share this because mine won’t be stock much longer:)
