Want to do some port work on a Homelite XL2

Hi Guys I'm new to the forum, I don't know much about performance work on 2 strokes but I want to learn. I have a Homelite XL2 2stroke that I grabbed off Craigslist. I like the saw its small and light and cuts pretty well. But I want to get more power out of it. Is porting the way to go or is there more to it?

Muffler mod might help a bit to. Problem is that there are not many parts available for those old homelites.

Thanks guys, so how do I go about advancing the timing? Are we talking about ignition or port timing?
