Does anyone use a little 2 stroke oil mix in their 4 stroke engines every now and then for a little top end lubrication? My father used to do this once or twice a year in all of our mower motors. He said it gave the top end a little lube and was goid for the valves and seats.
Just curious to hear what you think on this. Thanks.

I dumped some older mix in my mower to get rid of it ,at 32 to 1 it ran real rich and stunk the whole time ,it is not needed .Plug turned black did not want to burn it very good .I have dumped it in my gas skid loader also to get rid of it ,just makes the exhaust smell different .

I've added just a little bit of 2 stroke oil to the fuel of some really old engines that were made back when leaded fuel was available. Not totally 100% sure how much this helps, does not bother anything though either. I don't bother with it in modern engines.

My 10.5 HP Tecumseh snow king engine on my blower is going into it's 11th winter with most of that being run on my 2 cycle mix . Those engines are known for wearing the valve guides so the oil helps prevent that .
Smokes a bit on start up , still has the original plug in it .
No issues at all .

Cool. I do the same with mine. I do not use straight mix, but I just add a little to the straight gas that is in the tank. Couldn't even come up with a guess as far as ratio goes.
I can smell the 2 stroke oil as it burns though.

Now I'm not saying that it will ruin your mower or other four stroke equipment, but 2-stroke oil in a 4-stroke engine will build up on the piston and valves a tiny bit. Obviously we have seen this on two stroke equipment also. Having said that my Pap always ran his old 2 stroke gas in his 4-stroke lawn mowers. I do the same. My current lawn mower has been running on 2/3 gasoline and 1/3 diesel fuel that I salvaged from a vehicle at work for the whole summer. It smokes like crazy but hey it was free.

I have a 6 year old Honda HRU216 that has never seen straight gas, it starts & runs fine. Also a four year old Makita 4 stroke blower that runs 100% fine on 2 stroke. I do it purely for convenience, because I only carry 2 stroke for my chainsaws & hedge trimmers. I've never even needed to change a spark plug on those 2 tools. :)

Shouldn't hurt other than might foul the plug some from the extra oil... but I using a Pro Multi-mix oil anyway. I have ran 4 cycle engines both ways as I sometimes run out of straight fuel in the shop and don't time to go get more until afterhours.

Don't forget Stihl is using a 2 cycle mix in their 4 Mix 4 cycle trimmer and blowers without problems. And they are holding up very well.

From what I understand, in the case of A Stihl 4-mix, it needs the Stihl ultra but at no more than 50:1. Otherwise, it will carbon a valve and be a real problem. This is only for a 4-mix afaik.

There was this guy, kind of a know it all that posts on a site I no longer go to .Had a fishing camp on Canada .They ran a Chevy pick up on 50 to 1 boat gas since it was brand new and according to him never had one bit of a problem .

I use my old saw gas on a 1951 Fergueson tractor model TO-20 .It doesn't care what it eats.I'd almost bet if I got it started on gasoline that it would run on K-1 kerosine

there not wrong with a couple splashes of two stroke mix in a four stroke I do it in my lawn mower and roto tiller and used a temp gun and the temp of the muffler and heads were cooler my neighbor does the same thing with his snow blower too and my quads love it too the top end sounds sound much quiter upon startup just make sure what you put it in it doesn't have a catalytic converter or an 02 censor

I use it too. Helps lube the top end a little. I posted it a while back.
