Without diving in to brand of saw, brand of chain, how to you know how many teeth you need for a longer bar? Thanks.

What he said ^

Sometimes, it can vary by a drive link or two, by the brand of the bar, model of saw, and size your drive sprocket.

Name brand saws might have a chart on their websites by model, or you can try the Oregon chain selector.

Only way to be certain is to try one on.

Yeah like @Philbert said it can vary. For instance a 28" bar for the D176,D024 and D009 are 92,91 and 93 dl in 3/8s. Can make a man go wtf lol.

Put the bar on the saw, go to a dealer, let the tech make you a loop.
OR
mount bar (close to the drive sprocket), take piece of cord and “mount” on bar around the drive sprocket and bar nose ( should be fairly tight),mark on cord where cord ends match, measure length. Then divide measured length by chain pitch x 2. Should get you close

I'm gonna have to use that formula.

Thanks gents. I didn't know that the individual chain mfgrs all had tables matching bars and chains.

I went to a home store and got an Oregon chain, required part number was in my Echo manual, and gave an Oregon part number. Made it easy.

I might want to do a muffler just to annoy the neighbor who can be a jerk off at times. But do I really need the increased power? No, I just cut up an occasional downed tree, do some light limbing, and cut firewood to fireplace length.

Little guy. 330T. It's a limber. Mostly the old lady's toy. I start it up for her and she plays with it. Makes her feel like she's out on the prairies like the Pioneer Woman, that nutball on the Cooking Channel who tells people she's a chef.
