update on the new Makita/Dolmar 81cc saw

Shame.

Sure is. They just don't have the brand recognition among CS pros here. When I got my first dolmar, a 7900, almost everyone laughed and called it an obese hairdryer, or didn't think it'd last. They knew of the older sachs dolmars but not these 'home owner' new saws. I think if dolkita already had something that improved upon what is already a good 9010, but in the same vein as their 79xx models, but in the >90cc class, they would have benefited immensely from the cockup stihl made of their 661 re/releases. I would have looked very hard at them too and may have bought one over a 395, simply on the strength of my experience with the 7900. The 7900 has made me more $ than any other saw I have owned and given me next to no trouble in many years.

Very true it's the way of the world now we're lucky enough to still have the ps-9010 for the unforseeable future

Makita website lists a new 56cc "farm" saw but no details. Oddly enough they list it with optional heated handles which would be unique to that market. Sorry to see the Dolmar name go away but glad they kept them red.

Makes me think 6100 with a smaller engine, but that's just a guess...

Maybe they will take a que from Echo and just detune the 6100 and lower the cost ~$100.00. A CS590 and CS600P are the same chassis, same displacement, but the 590 has a slightly detuned cylinder, more restrictive muffler, smaller carb, and a plastic half wrap to save costs. Perhaps Makuta/Dolmar will do likewise?

Echo makes more 59.8cc models than those two (590, 600, 605, 610 and 620). All but the 620 are "detuned", according to Echo specs. http://www.echotools.com/products/category/

That is from the international site (they keep the power specs "secret" in North America), and it is of course possible that the 590s sold in the US market are further "detuned"?

Not at all, I believe at least Husky, Stihl and Dolmar (likely others as well) did things like this long before Echo did - unless they (Echo) did the same with much older generations of saws than mentioned here.

The idea is an old one, nothing novel about it.

Unless of course if it and the 6100 shared the same bottom end and only need to do a p&c upgrade to 81cc. Now that would be exciting! Or at least I would be excited.

My dealer told me that's exactly what a little Makita birdie told him they'd like to have happen! It would appear we can thank the EPyA for the eventual death of the 7910. He's not convinced the 6100 bottom end can handle an 81cc top end though.

6100 won't be turned into anything bigger. Small mount bar makes that a useless endeavor. Even going up to 70cc would be iffy with the limited bar selection and 50cc clutch and oiler components

Judging by my 9010, I may have to find a 7900/10 one of these days. Now if Dolkita could make a saw that was as smooth and well handling as a 7900 with an equal or better power/weight ratio and enough power to smoke a 390xp, THAT would be something...

You feel the 9010 isnt the saw that runs with the 390 ?

I think the 9010 and 660 were pretty comparable both behind the 390xp in smoothness and performance from what Ive read. The 901o is more Stihl like than Husq.

As it looks to me the 7910 doesn't have the power to weight advantage vs. the more common brands that the 7900 had, so a "strato" replacement hardly would be a surprise. I would be very surprised if it is on the 6100 bottom/case though.

Have a 5 tank only 9010 on a 28 sugi bar that is with me before collection after demonstrating it to a tree surgeon. Would like it myself !! never run a 390 or a 395 (288 xp is my biggest Husq saw used ) but i could'nt help but be very impressed with the 9010.
