Two different crank case halves?

I purchased a Stihl 044 red lever 10mm off of eBay as a little project to get more experience working on saws. The description said it had low compression and would only run for about 30 seconds. When I got it, I checked compression and it was around 115psi. I tore it down expecting to see an obvious reason why it had low compression and I didn’t. The piston had a crack in the skirt. I then noticed the difference between the two crank case halves.

Is this normal? Could this be causing low compression? What else is there to look for?

The crankcase halves are normally like that and will not cause the compression to suffer. It looks like the rings are worn and that's likely the
cause of your low compression. With the crack in the skirt, you need a new piston anyway. Did your saw have a paper base gasket?

Thanks. I thought that might be the case but I just wanted to make sure. It did have a paper base gasket.
