Trimmer Running Rough

SRM 225. Replaced carb, plug. Checked insulator, no cracks. The little woman dropped it off its perch and it fell 5 and hit the concrete hard, thus the reason for the new carb and that little metal plate that holds the air filter in. Have tweaked it a bunch, runs rough at idle, pretty smooth at high speed. So I'm wondering if the spark plug CABLE is at fault, and when she dropped it, could she have bent up the wire in the end of the spark plug cable. I'm thinking it wouldn't work at all if it was really screwed up. What do you think?

What age trimmer is it? Echo had trouble with some older coils failing internally which I suppose could be triggered by a hard fall.

I do not know how old it is, I trash picked it and put in one of those cheap crappy Chinese carbs. Ran great until the old lady effed it up.

Watch those Chinese carbs for every good ones you get there seems to be a
couple of bad ones. also find them pigs of things to adjust

Did you replace the carb with an OEM or an aftermarket? Like Coupe mentioned, those cheap Chinese carbs are hit and miss. Also, on some of the Echo carbs, there is a tiny black plastic plug on the fuel line side that is removable, and with a tiny flat-blade screwdriver, you can adjust the carb.

There is also a screw in the middle of the carb rotor for the idle mix.

A light bulb spark tester is well worth the few dollars in diagnosing whether it is a spark or fuel issue.

Yes, I found that screw in the middle of the carb rotor for the idle mix. In that type of carb design, barrel type, that's where it is.
A new coil is 20 bucks. How much is that light bulb spark tester?

I replaced the crappy carb with an Echo OEM carb. Surprisingly, it didn't have any plugs blocking access to the adjustment screws.

I would not buy an aftermarket coil, which is what you’re getting for $20. The coils on these have a lifetime warranty if it is indeed bad, but that will cover the coil only and not labor. If you have a good local dealer, they should replace the coil for 30-40$ labor (hopefully—I’m saying what our dealership would charge; even though it is a 5 min job, it takes a lot more time to file the warranty claim, especially if the unit is unregistered).
