Ignoring the little metal plate. Is there any functional difference from a fiskars except costing $30 more? Is this foam hack just spraying the insulation foam into the handle?

I’ve broken fiskars. The husky seems unbreakable. Overstrike guard. Hardened poll for striking. Shorter, better for wedge banging while falling

Do the Husqvarna axe’s have a larger poll than the fiskars?
In pictures they look like a good wedge banger but I haven’t been out to dealer in awhile.
I lost a 5lb norlund a couple years ago that was great. Carried a lot of different axes since but nothing so far sets a wedge like the norlund did.

Yes, quite a bit, and hardened. Last I knew, the fiskars was not meant to strike on the poll. Totally silly to me. They also do not split my Euc very well. Too concave and flat cheeks. The handle is also too long to pack around. The husky is about the same for splitting, but at least it’s a good banger.

@chiselbit will disagree with me :-D but I also have not found anything that drives wedges like my 5lb Norlund with the big poll. Well, except maybe the Borntrager head if you want to throw some $ around. The whole head is hardened and it’s a good splitter too.

4lb mini sledge is what I’ve been carrying but If you need to chop something to save the edge on your chain it’s obviously less than ideal.
I’ll pick up a 24” Husqvarna to try.
I still look for the norlund everytime I’m in that sugar maple bush

Nice big fir with the 400. 25” bar with the westcoast kit (bark box, dawgs and air filter). I love this thing, I can’t imagine what these are like ported! If you ever wondered why the WCS dawgs are so long, a picture is worth a thousand wordsView attachment 478306
I grew up on the islands a bit north of you. Dad just passed, I should be up there this summer.

I’m sorry to hear about your dad. San Juan’s? Vashon? Whidbey? Canada? Lot of islands up here! Been here my whole life and even tho it’s expensive I don’t see myself going anywhere else other than maybe Alaska or Idaho

I use a 20 inch on mine but I cut a mix of hard and soft timber. It destroys any timber.

I think I could easily run a 28” on this out here, I have a 32” that would fit but haven’t tried it. It feels pretty perfect with the 25”! We don’t run into too much hardwood around here

I often see videos of guys in the PNW running long bars on small saws.
