Cold here too - was 9 when I started with a 20-25 mph wind from the SW that warmed it up to 28 they said - but it didn’t feel like it.
Ash has a bad reputation, especially dead stuff,The woods are a dangerous place.
This Ash split on the face side of the hinge after the middle of the log hit a rootball on the way down. The butt kicked up while the hinge was still attached.

And this Ash came apart at the crotch. A windblown for was lying in it, after I cut the fur loose at the butt and felled another heavier Ash down on top of its top section the middle of the fir log tore through the Ash.

Thanks! I’ve felled quite a few out in the woods where there is little risk of hitting anything.Pretty brave and well done for an amateur.
