What are the benefits of Full Comp or Skip? When do you use each?

I think it all depends on what type of wood ur cutting, I personally like semi skip. In my experience it works great in all types of wood. Less cutters to file, it’s fast and fairly smooth in hardwoods.

I like full comp in hardwood, it just cuts faster. In sticky softwood, skip clears the chips better. Also, skip is often used when the bar exceeds what the saw wants to pull.

404 rs out of the box is pretty rough, the rakers are way low. I have a new 20" 404 chain that I converted to square. But it still has a lot of the round hook.

It will pull the life out of a saw with an 8 pin

When I ran the new rs I was thinking, felling would impossible with this chain. It was much better after square filing it.

Why is it that .404 stays sharper than 3/8? Just because it is bigger?
I always thought that .404 was for 36 and larger bars.
