My neighbor snagged a prize. However like most other Stihls that have been sitting around ( shelf queens ) it's very hard to pull on the starter rope. I pulled it once, the rope came out. Pulled a second time, it locked up. Suggestions? I wanna see if the starting mechanism is OK before we go down the rabbit holes of fuel and ignition issues. I'll take any tips.

There is a long screw that backs out of those and if i remember it right, it can get in the back of the flywheel.
I have a few of the 270 and 280s for parts or projects. Actually liked working with the 270. 280s turn over pretty tight starting or I would like them better

Spray some WD-40 down the sparkplug hole, intake and exhaust port, don't want to move the piston too much if it is dry.
