i'm not a machinist. I now nothing about running this thing, but I will learn, any info anyone has on it will be helpful.

i'm excited to start working on it getting it cleaned up and running. but I have saws that need to get done.

Nice complete lathe Scott, even has a taper attachment and steady rests. The nice thing is lathes all do the same thing, the controls just change a bit and you have to get a feel for it.

set up a power station for the new lath

runs the wrong way, just need to switch 2 wires around on the motor.

that's fixed, need to get the apron off the carriage and see why the cross feed don't work. need to fix a couple levers too.

what type of filler rod is that? (My old boss was a ship builder from Jersey. Saw him repair a broken cast iron piece like that years ago. They heated the area with a torch then repaired it)

That's brazing rod. Unless you were looking for something more specific.

Looks good. And shouldn't the lathe go both ways no matter what? I know the one at my work does. We use it for refinishing rollers for a press.

lil more specifics on the cast brazing? I use a welder. Heat with a torch before an after. High Nickle based rod. Very interested in what you did there tree monkey

Nothing special about the rod. I did it with a number 5 tipped cutting torch

Nickle based rod is what the boss used. They heated it up with a "rose bud" tip, then used the nickle rods on it to repair it. (My brain is old, but I remember that much )

Nickel in a stick welder, I have better luck brazing cast

Ive brazed with a number 4 or 5 tip and 40 to 45 percent rod with flux on rod.it works good for me brass to copper, copper to steel,brass to steel,mufflers,cast etc,its not cheap but works great,i use it on acwork as well were you have a lot of cibration and flex,not as hard as nickle and silver solder and has some flex to it
