Very good "coachable opportunity " here...
1. Storm downed trees are not for rookies.
2. Reading "compression" and "tension" on storm downs takes care and skill
3. While the wood is valuable, your time is also
4. Have a plan, develop a process and move slowly
5. Practice "bore cutting" under ideal conditions prior to "storm downs"
6- 10... Make friends with your local-est tree service guy and ask him to drop off a load of cuts to your yard. They will, you just need to approach him properly and let him know access to your lawn is safe and you will take the entire load. I find it much easier to have wood dropped off then to cut ,load , haul and dump at my yard...much safer too. "Friends and neighbors" call me all the time..."hey Angelo... You want some firewood? " ....that's a red flag for me....don't fall for it. It's never free, usually requires a crap load of saws, fuel, tooling, equiptment and some danger to get some "free" wood.
